The Community Garden Project was spearheaded by Elizabeth (Liz) Ward with the Sierra Club and the St. Mary’s County Department of Recreation and Parks in 2021. A community garden planning team was formed, bringing together organizations interested in participating in the creation and operation of the gardens. Many community members have been involved in the concept and design of the gardens.
Today, the project — now known as the Lexington Manor Passive Park (LMPP) Community Garden— is led by the St. Mary’s CDC Project Manager, with support from the Garden Steering Committee, community volunteers, and partners hosting public hours, educational classes and volunteering events.
