The Board of Directors of St. Mary’s Community Development is excited to announce the hiring of associate director Taylor Smith in August 2020.
Taylor grew up in Salisbury, North Carolina and attended Appalachian State University in Boone. After graduating cum laude with a bachelor of social work, she continued her education at Appalachian to obtain a master of social work, with a concentration in organizations and communities.
“I’m not your average ‘social worker’. I knew I wanted to help people but I wasn’t sure of how I wanted to go about it. I discovered social work and as I began to take classes I started to realize that there were way more opportunities in the field other than one-on-one intervention. One of my final classes of undergrad was a macro-level social work class where I learned the potential to impact large groups of people and greater communities. I had found my calling and I’m excited to get the ball rolling!”
Taylor will also serve as the resident services coordinator at Patuxent Cove Apartments. Within this role, she ensures resident satisfaction, educates residents on finances, independent living, and safety, and facilitates an environment beneficial to resident quality of life.
